The "men who do things" by Luca Carfagna: icon Expo Greve

For several years are an icon of the Expo of Chianti Classico, as well as the Black Rooster is the wine.

They are the "men who do things", the stylized human figures that animate the great banners of jute hung on the facade of the town hall and the artist born in Turin but "Panzanese" adoption Luca Carfagna draws from a decade.

The wine, however, as told by the artist himself, is a pretext for these figures who live by themselves and blend with the environment that hosts them.

"Every time I make them - explains Carfagna - it takes me a new energy and this event certainly gives me great encouragement".

Some of these representations are sequences of the same action, other represent a single character that is different actions (or who simply does nothing).

But all the works are united by two elements that Carfagna considers essential: "Energy and irony, this should inspire in me and in those who watch them. And every time it's as if lanciassi these figures on a topic, and then they are busy to create situations ironic and entertaining".

Carfagna, 49, arrived in Chianti in 2004 after working in various parts of Italy and Europe, especially in Spain. You were born in Barcelona that the "little men".

The choice to reside in Chianti was pretty random, but convinced. "My brother was already living there - he says - and after we arrived almost by chance, to harvest, I immediately felt an interesting place. There are many possibilities to make this work and to show, thanks to the many markets and fairs organized on territory".

And just in Panzano in Chianti, says, there is a special atmosphere that fosters creativity: "Here an artist... leads to another, from abroad and from other parts of Italy. It is a right size, a country small but not aspects and rituals of the province as the walk in the center on Saturday afternoon".

Despite the close relationship with wine, Carfagna (which in the days of the Expo will be with its own booth in Piazza Matteotti) has never designed a label of Chianti Classico.

"In reality - I reveal - I made one for an Austrian wine, but the result was not satisfactory".

Plans for the future? Not for the moment, he says, but to continue this activity by participating in markets and fairs.

"I'm not made for exhibitions and galleries - ends - which also require a certain attitude to diplomatic relations. I like direct contact with people".
